Have you ever noticed that after the excitement and joy of the holidays fade away, a wave of melancholy seems to wash over many of us?

I recently recalled a conversation with a dear friend who confessed that she felt unusually sad and drained after the holidays. As we shared a hot cup of tea, she told me that during the holidays, everything seems to have a special kind of charm. The whole family gets together, lights are shining everywhere, and the festive atmosphere gives her a feeling of warmth. But when it's all over, the cold January days seem to leave her with a kind of emptiness in her soul.

This post-holiday sadness is not just a personal phenomenon, but something that many people experience. It's as if, after a peak of excitement and activity, we suddenly return to reality, and the contrast can leave us disoriented, drained, or sad.

But what can we do if these feelings creep up on us? I would like to share here a few thoughts that I discussed with my friend:

  • It is perfectly normal to feel a change in mood after the holiday season. It is important to accept these feelings without judging yourself.

  • Allow yourself to adjust. Try to return to your daily routine step by step, without rushing.

  • Introduce activities into your life that bring you joy and energize you. You don't have to wait for the next holidays to do something good for yourself.

  • Continue to meet with friends and family. Authentic human connections can be a powerful "antidote" to sadness.

  • Find joy in the things around you, whether it's a good book, a walk in the park, or a hobby.

  • If the feeling of sadness becomes overwhelming or persistent, don't hesitate to seek support.

As we finished our tea, I noticed that my friend had started smiling. She confessed that although she couldn't change the seasons or the calendar, she could choose to view each day as a new opportunity to find joy and fulfillment. I chose to take this idea with me, and I think it can be a lovely message for each of us.
